Some are more profitable than others, but usually most of your affiliate income will come from one or two “ringers” — core products that just about everyone in your audience needs and which also pay a good commission.
Anyway, before you terminate your contract and become a full-time affiliate-come-backpacker, launch it as a side project and put in some non-passive work. Supplement your income and see if and how the affiliate marketing business works for you.
Putting a handy disclaimer in the bottom of your videos and on your about page or in your annotations covers you where this is concerned. Many big YouTubers have been using Affiliate Links to make money on YouTube for years.
Cost per action/sale methods require that referred visitors do more than visit the advertiser’s website before the affiliate receives a commission. The advertiser must convert that visitor first. It is in the best interest of the affiliate to send the most closely targeted traffic to the advertiser as possible to increase the chance of a conversion. The risk and loss are shared between the affiliate and the advertiser.
You could also be facing a situation where the potential client has had a bad experience with personal training before. They were promised the world by somebody who didn’t deliver. Who’s to say you’re different?
In practice, it’s a modern interpretation of a very old idea — getting a commission on a sale. You introduce your readers to products or services from trusted companies or individuals and get a commission on any sales to customers you send their way.
Disappointing. Was expecting to get a blueprint of the steps needed to begin an affiliate marketing campaign but this wasn’t really covered at all. Gave too broad and too vague an overview for someone looking to get started in this area. Waited on this book for 3 weeks and had it read in less than an hour.
As far as the video filming is concerned, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on There is no need to hire prestigious actors or rent a fancy studio. A small business can achieve great effects with cool graphic content, which costs much less.
This is extremely helpful information for somebody who is a newbie blogger! I’ve been looking for an all inclusive “guide” to explain affiliate marketing and this is the best I’ve found. Quick question for you – when you talk about the cookie expiration date, is that from the date that you post your review/recommendation or from the date that the reader clicks on the link? For example, the affiliate links you posted in this post are well over 90 days old but if I click on one of them now and buy that product, do you still get paid? Just curious how that works.
Uncontrolled affiliate programs aid rogue affiliates, who use spamming, trademark infringement, false advertising, cookie stuffing, typosquatting, and other unethical methods that have given affiliate marketing a negative reputation.
I net $100/day working for a corporation 40 hrs/week. I live paycheck to paycheck and would like to add to my income. I often see people claim that they make tons (to me anyway) of money on Amazon/Ebay. I will put your system to the test. I have at least 40 hrs/week that I can dedicate to this process (I’m 55 and need my rest). Thank you, however for posting such a detailed system.
Ignore the “butterflies” that are sure to fly by on a constant basis. They will just distract you from your project/campaign at hand. One completed and profitable campaign is worth so much more than 50 almost half-finished campaigns or projects.
If you get THAT clear and believe in some product, go ahead. Your audience trusts your word. But most folks need to use or experience before they can get clear, because they have a fear: the fear of using trust. I am slowly losing that fear but still use what I promote, before I promote it. I also just sell my stuff mainly. Since I have quite a few products and eBooks and services to sell.
Hey Courtney, I haven’t had any websites impacted with the update actually. I also don’t really even think about or care about keyword density in my articles either. My recommendation is to remember that Google’s goal is to provide the best search results and if your goal is to make a website that is genuinely better than the website currently ranking in the first position that the rest will follow (particularly if you’re going after an authority website approach)
What you’re saying has already been said before. The client can pick up any fitness magazine and be promised the same results. Often they’ve failed in a workout program before. This might even have been led by a different trainer with sub par abilities or poor intentions that had promised them everything you had minus the flying motorcycle.
Hi, I watch a lot of YT videos, FB ads, and many another websites about affiliate marketing, but however, they explain all about it I’m still confused on how to do it. I want to know more, learn more about affiliate marketing.
Search for terms like “[product] affiliate program.” For example, “Target affiliate program.” If your first search doesn’t turn up anything, try again. Don’t give up too easily. Sometimes there are slight variances in word usage or terms.
The Amazon affiliate program is like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. If you can figure out where the rainbow ends you may do well. I’m still trying to figure out how the rainbow is made. Thanks for your tips. They are helping.
If you find the limited targeting – along with the manual button pushing – time consuming, our software enables automated “Boosts.” This means you can set more advanced targeting (Chapters 5 and Chapters 6), choose what types of posts get an automatic Boost, and relax. Simply check on it once a week to make sure it’s all still running smoothly.
Affiliate marketing isn’t hard, but it does require knowledge, planning, and consistent effort to make any significant income. Here are some things you can do to insure your venture into affiliate marketing is successful.
Wow! This is surely one of the best guides for making money with Amazon Associates I’ve ever seen. Truly useful points and much to learn! I’m also using an Amazon aStore and I agree with you, it’s worthless. Thanks for sharing these tips, I will try these techniques and I hope I can get a bigger check next time 🙂
Select a niche. Most affiliate marketers choose a niche, or area of specialization. Before you begin marketing products or services, you’ll need to find an area you can easily work within to advertise.
Not necessarily, but a blog is really the best promotional tool. With that said, you can always use methods such as PPC or advertising to promote a product. This is more like hit-and-run affiliate marketing, however. The best way to make the most out of your affiliate marketing opportunities is to have a blog and use it for hard and soft promotion.

The guest blogging you did to build your email list should go a long way in building connections with influential bloggers. Stay in touch and stay on their radar, and next time they’re preparing for a launch, they may come to you.
Hey Chris, great article. I was wondering if you have noticed anything different with your Amazon niche sites since the Google algo change? Have you lost traffic or do you build the sites up so much that they have good content. I’m new at this and would be curious if you think people need to change anything.
Consider joining up with an affiliated marketing company. One easy way to enter the field of affiliate marketing is to join a company that specializes in online marketing. Though you’ll ultimately work independently, companies like MoreNiche allow aspiring affiliate marketers to join for free to have a platform for advertising products/services.
Hey guys. Great post with detailed, actionable content. I would like to add my ‘2 cents’ if that’s ok. You are absolutely right with offering a ‘free gift’ in exchange for someone’s name and email address but I have found short reports have worked best for me. If you give away too much information for free they don’t tend to get consumed so the trust isn’t built with your subscriber. Your free gift is the first point of contact with your prospect so it’s unlikely they will read an entire ebook but if you give them a short report which they are able to consume in about 20 mins and they get tremendous value from they are more likely to listen to you in the future and buy your recommendations. A big mistake i see a lot of affiliates make is the content they use for their free giveaway. They think just because it’s given away for free that they can just throw together some PLR material and use that. Unfortunately that doesn’t cut it these days and will damage your relationship with your prospect rather than strengthen it. The best way is to carry out some research in your marketplace and see what pains and frustrations your prospects have and create your free giveaway around that.
Few things destroy a good relationship with your audience as quickly as too many pushy sales messages. The last thing you want is for readers to think you care more about squeezing every last penny out of them than you do about helping them succeed.
wonderful post daniel, youtube videos highly recommends for getting backlinks and generate more visitors to your money site. when someone became affiliate marketer, Every one focusing to get more sales so I’m also recommends to do Youtube
Every time you make a sale, you get a percentage — a commission, in other words. That percentage can range from 5 percent to 25 percent (sometimes even higher), depending on the company and the product. It may not sound like much, but for high-ticket items, even 5 percent can be quite a lot. When you make hundreds of sales, the amount can certainly add up. Some of the highest commissions can be earned when you promote digital information products as an affiliate.
Awesome article Ben, many great suggestions. I felt like you didn’t mention using video ads on Facebook though, we find that using video ads gives us a much higher ROI than image ads. Also, you don’t need a ton of time, effort or money to make a few with the online video makers out there today. For example we doubled our retargeting results by adding a video ad (made with our own video ad creation software) to our campaign.
