So where did affiliate marketing come from? Back in the pioneer days of the online commerce – also known as the mid 90’s – Amazon came up with a program where they paid people to refer clients to them.
You can go about this in two different ways. First, you can visit your favoite ecological and landscape design websites and see if they have an affiliate program. Usually this information will be located on the very bottom of their website or on their contact page. The other thing you can do is sign up with some of the bigger affiliate platforms like ShareASale and FlexOffers. Once you’re accepted into the program, you can search their merchants for like-minded companies. You should be able to find some goos partners faily easy. Good luck and keep us posted.
Thank you for sharing these great tips. I have made money from Amazon from revenue share sites like Hubpages. I am not looking to branch out and start to build my own sites to really increase my earning potential. I am sure that these tips are going to come in very handy.
What you’re saying has already been said before. The client can pick up any fitness magazine and be promised the same results. Often they’ve failed in a workout program before. This might even have been led by a different trainer with sub par abilities or poor intentions that had promised them everything you had minus the flying motorcycle.
So you’ve built up your blog, email list, and gained an audience. Now you need to decide which way you want to go in terms of monetization. There are many different types of affiliate programs that can help you make money online.

That’s a great tip Sean, thanks! I was thinking about what you said in your post about some companies not putting that they have affiliate links and you having to do some digging and there are couple of companies/authors who made products I love and keep using, but I’m not sure how to go ahead and ask about the affiliate link. I read the post you linked below about asking for guest blogging, which I thought was a must-read, and so, if you think of doing a follow-up on this one, would love to read some of your tips and do’s and don’t about this. Thanks again, Sean, you’re doing some very inspiring work here!
For example, if you’re writing about decor that includes purple comforters, make the phrase “purple comforters” a link to Amazon’s site that shows people only comforters that are offered in purple. Your readers can browse through Amazon’s offerings and maybe purchase an item that they like.
Lead Ads allow you to collect information from the user without them having to leave Facebook. Facebook will also automatically fill in all the information it can, including a user’s name, email address, or phone number, so the user doesn’t have to.

Thank you so much for a clear and concise breakdown of the Amazon Associate program. I’ve been ready (finally) to make the jump and have been working out my monetization strategies. This tutorial has not only helped me better understand how the program works, but has also given me some other – much simpler – ideas for other niche sites that I can get up and going very quickly! I appreciate your hard work and the effort you put into this. I look forward to reading more from you.
An affiliate marketing business is a freelance opportunity that lets marketers make money through a commission by selling third party products. And the best part is that affiliates can market from anywhere around the globe. The only requirement is just having a fast Internet connection to make this great freelancing gig work.
While other companies have attempted to gather this type of data before, we like Wordstream’s data because it’s broken down by industry. As you can see from the graph below, there are significant differences in CPC for different industries.
Wow! This is surely one of the best guides for making money with Amazon Associates I’ve ever seen. Truly useful points and much to learn! I’m also using an Amazon aStore and I agree with you, it’s worthless. Thanks for sharing these tips, I will try these techniques and I hope I can get a bigger check next time 🙂
It is not a waste of time to write meaningful, helpful posts that don’t contain a single affiliate link. Too often bloggers ask, “how could this post earn me money?” and not, “how can I position my blog as one that is a valuable resource?” Build the trust with your readership through solid, quality content so when you do have the right opportunity to share an affiliate link or two – you’ll have a captured audience and not a desensitized one.
For sure. I would also add you do not want ALL of your videos to be the picture style. It is often best to mix it up. Keeps it fresh you know… Also make sure that pictures that you grab are ones that you actually have right for.
Delegate routine tasks. Once your business takes off, it’s time for you to focus on how to grow your business while delegating routine tasks to others. It will cost you some money in labor expense, but the investment is worth it if it allows you to come up with new ways to promote your affiliate marketing business and build it even further.
HI Julie!! Thank you! I’m SO GLAD you’ve found the series helpful…I do plan to add more, I’ve just been so swamped lol. And my back hurts too much to sit at the computer most of the time, so that’s tricky. I’m happy to hear you’re making progress – slow and steady is good when it comes to blogging!
I am wanting to become an Amazon affiliate but unfortunately in Illinois so it seems it is not to be. I was searching the web for answers and came across Viglinks. Do you have any thoughts or experience with this? It seems like a simple way to do affiliates and I know they take a percentage of your commission. It looks like they link every affiliate they are joined with so I’m not sure that’s the best but I don’t know of any other way to get around the Amazon thing.
Obviously in order to make this work you need to plan a bit. For instance, John usually links to products he is talking in the video itself, so viewers will be more likely to become interested, click on the link and make the purchase. If you check his post you’ll be able to see screenshots from his videos, which pretty much shows how it’s done.
As a new affiliate marketer, you are not obligated to purchase every product you want to promote. However, it goes without saying that actually owning and using the products is huge for establishing credibility and trust. Intimate knowledge of the product can mean the difference between making the sale and having prospects move elsewhere.
Last year, Facebook started allowing publishers to create videos sponsored by advertisers, which has allowed some publishers — most notably Buzzfeed’s Tasty unit — to generate significant ad dollars. Sources say that decision came after BuzzFeed executives complained to Facebook executives that they weren’t making enough money from Facebook video.
It bothers that all a trainer needs to succeed is 20-30 dedicated clients yet there are so many that fail. The answer doesn’t lie in sales; it lies in showing your value before the sales meeting takes place.
Overall, your chances for making money with an affiliate program are probably no better and no worse than any other type of Internet home based business.Your success depends on how well you execute your affiliate business plan.
The affiliate-marketing industry is growing steadily. An independent survey commissioned by Rakuten Affiliate Network found that affiliate marketing is set to reach $6.8 billion by 2020. Ninety percent of advertisers included in the survey said that affiliate programs were important or very important to their overall marketing strategy, with the majority of publishers reporting that affiliate partnerships drove more than 20% of annual revenue.
These are just a few of the questions you should ask before running your video ads. You should be looking at metrics like engagement and play rate of your video content across channels before you determine what videos are worth putting money behind. As WordStream founder, Larry Kim, taught me during my time as a WordStream employee, always promote your BEST content (i.e. the top 1%!).
Don’t just run Facebook video ads for the sake of pushing video content out there. Create inspirational and informative content to influence the decision making process of the audience and get them to take action.
Well, this is the internet. Someone else has had an idea for a website before you. The goal is to build something that is ‘better’ than what is currently ranking for your target market and ‘better’ can mean a combination of a few things such as better content, better links etc.
