Of course, this depends on the audience you’re testing. For example, if you’re running a test for site traffic, and you sense that people generally visit your page on the weekends, you’d likely want to cover a full seven-day period.

Your main task will always be traffic generation (i.e. driving prospects to the merchant’s website via your unique “affiliate” link). You can start by finding ways to drive free traffic and then adding paid advertising methods to your traffic mix.

Amazon Associates – Who doesn’t love Amazon and the fact that you can get almost anything there? (Plus, it’s a handy place to spend all those Swagbucks gift cards!) Of course, they have much more than books like a Kindle, or even computers like Macs (be still my heart), Pirate’s Booty (we’ve been known to buy these by the case) and textbooks (stop here before the college bookstore!). Sign up with Amazon Associates here.

Excellent written article, I only recently started delving into Amazon affiliate sales and have been following what you recommend with links in posts and reviews converting better. One question I had which you don’t show in a screen shot is how many sales are through product link clicks and how many are through “all other items ordered”. I am curious to know what # of sales are from products not directly listed, but just taking advantage of the Amazon cookie and getting percentage of those sales.

Brands, agencies and marketers are using Facebook in ways that can switch up creative depending on the audience, tailoring the promotion based on a consumer’s interests, background and geography. D’Arcy calls it the science of building relevance.

Using Youtube to promote an affiliate product works really well! We have been doing this for quite some time. Also, ranking local businesses with video is very lucrative and will bring in a nice monthly income. Thanks for sharing!

I never thought I would grow up and become a full-time blogger, haha. I graduated from college in 2010, and again in 2012 with my Masters with an emphasis in Finance. I started out as a financial analyst, and worked in that position for 3 years.

Shouldn’t really matter one way or the other frankly. I like a home page design like I have here on this blog because I can send people back to the home page if I want to point them to the blog or podcast content more easily.

Having a loose script. You don’t need to read anything word for word, but know what you’re trying to say and the general flow of your video. You can even set a piece of paper off-screen to glance at to help you remember, and this can help put your mind at ease—making it much easier for you to feel like yourself while you talk.

You don’t have to know anything at all about video advertising as you open your account. You’ll have a full library of tutorials and instructions, from scriptwriting help and video advertising courses to expert interviews to forums on every topic you’ll need.

Facebook’s increased focus on video isn’t only because users like to watch it (although they clearly do) — it’s also because more marketers are shifting their budgets from TV to mobile video. The allure for advertisers lies in Facebook’s hyper-surgical targeting possibilities and the results Facebook videos can deliver.

If I have to buy this product, why I spend with you rather than another affiliate? You have something more interesting than another? What if you could do me an irresistible offer if I pass you by? I certainly would buy in this case.

What I thought would be a refresher course for someone who has grown up using social media was so much more insightful.  I now have the knowledge to implement a campaign and measure it’s success more efficiently!

The book is well organized. I appreciated the discussion of how to avoid common mistakes like being too salesy or thinking that affiliate marketing is a get rich quick scheme. The material on attracting traffic was helpful. This book is a no-nonsense, concise guide that steers you in the right direction. It’s full of great tips to keep you on track, but it’s not so wordy that you’ll fall asleep.

Once you’ve got a topic and possibly some products to promote, the next lessons you’ll to go through are ‘Finding and Registering a Domain Name’ and ‘What to Look for in a Hosting Provider.’ These will give you a hand with setting up your own domain name and hosting, and then you should have some help from your hosting provider to install WordPress.

Whoever is managing the program does the work of recruiting quality affiliates, getting them engaged, finding ways for them to promote the merchant, and valuing the ones that bring in incremental revenue.

Thats a great point, and I’ve definitely seen my fair share of those “how to start a blog” posts. That’s always been a good fit for people at Location 180, and if they do a good job on the post (truly make it useful) that’s one that doesnt bother me as much – solely because I know how valuable starting a blog can be for your life and goals. So if it’s some personal finance blogger that creates one and you start a blog from that by following their tutorial – all the better!

Recently, I created an in-depth post that compared and contrasted all of the different options for hosting – and helped the user to select the best option for them. It didn’t really matter which one they chose because I’d get a commission no matter what.

2-tier affiliate marketing: This is a great way of making money from an affiliate program. With this method, you recommend that others join affiliate programs, and you receive a commission when a sub-affiliate makes a sale (similar to MLM or multi-level marketing). This income is also known as a sub-affiliate commission.

Yes, you can because affiliate marketing does not violate any Adsense TOS. In fact, for me, affiliate marketing works better than Adsense, and that is one reason you see fewer AdSense ads here at ShoutMeLoud.

This is the most important step in creating a successful YouTube channel. This does not mean, however, that you need a professional video editing studio and a $5,000 camera. While it is important to have clear and well edited audio and video, the most important aspect of these videos is the actual content itself. Providing a high quality, detailed and honest review of a product can be the determining factor of whether or not someone will purchase that product.

So true. There is no right and wrong, and everyone is going to do it slightly different. It comes down to trying a bunch of stuff, doing it with authenticity, and then seeing what your audience thinks from there!

Don’t Completely Recycle Video Assets. While it may be tempting to use your video assets from a TV spot or other digital campaign, take time to evaluate if the existing content is suitable for the platform and will achieve your desired goals.

What I realized with working from home and making money online is that the more people you genuinely help, the more money you end up making. Helping others to succeed will create you a large following of loyal customers. You want to convince the reader to investigate their purchase options by the time they finish reading an article, which is why I’ll always include links to all of the products mentioned in a review at the end of the article. That way it’s an easy transition from learning about the product during your review and then at the end it’s time to make a purchase.

That choice to use watch time instead of completion rate can muddy things a bit, since ad lengths can vary even within the same context. For example, Facebook has started testing six-second pre-roll ads in addition to its mid-roll ads that can be up to 15 seconds long. Hypothetically, if a majority of the in-stream ads Facebook serves are these six-second pre-roll spots and people always watch these non-skippable pre-rolls to completion, the watch time chart for Facebook’s non-skippable in-stream ads could look like there’s a significant viewership drop-off after the six-second mark. That could be interpreted to mean that people’s attention typically maxes out at six seconds — whether the ad is pre-roll or mid-roll and regardless of its length — when it could be more accurate to say that the ads typically max out then. Of course both could be true and likely would be if Facebook’s existing ads’ watch time is any indication. According to a Facebook spokesperson, ads’ watch time drop-offs remained roughly consistent regardless of the ads’ length; so if in-stream ad viewers were to typically tune out after six seconds, that would be as likely the case were the ad six seconds long or 15 seconds long.

Test every component of the ad in every variation that you can. This includes different edits of the video itself, the starter image for the video, copy variations, including or excluding a link in the copy, and the call-to-action at the end of the video.

  1. Once you find a winning combination, build on that, make a profit, and increase your revenue. Eventually, you can build on your success and start offering other products and maybe even other niches down the road. But the important thing is to start small.
The advantage of a blog, such as Blogger, is that it’s free to operate, whereas some websites require a fee to operate. However, sites like GoDaddy.com and Hostgator offer website services that are relatively inexpensive to operate, and may look more professional than a personal blog.[4]
It’s an essential part of your success that you focus on just one niche at a time. Here’s what I mean. Don’t try to be like Amazon, selling thousands of different types of products. It may seem counterintuitive but promoting many products across many niches is not the best approach for first-time online entrepreneurs. To be honest, you can’t compete against Amazon or other catch-all internet retailers. You have a much better chance focusing on a niche market.
Hi Mike, I know at times it is difficult, but not impossible. It may take some time at times, but if your base work is strong, affiliate marketing could give emmence results. Once its set, it would work like a machine.
