Expect a lot of hard work. Many people breaking into affiliate marketing expect to get rich quick. However, it takes a lot of work to get your affiliate marketing business off the ground, especially in the early stages. Some marketers work 12 hours each day, seven days a week as they try to launch and develop their platforms.
That means a multi-channel approach with a consistent marketing message across all channels. Use your blog, pay-per-click ad campaigns that link to squeeze pages and sales page, market to your email list, comment in forums and on Facebook pages, use social media to build a following and get your message out — maybe even make it go viral, promote with online video… be creative in how you market these affiliate products. Be sure to dial in your marketing efforts to reach your specific target market.
Its like when I was young and I read the “Emperor’s New Clothes”…. only a little boy could see that the Emperor riding on the horse was only in his undies…and if you continue to believe in this fable, that is all that you will have left.
Similar to engagement, audience reach is simple to track on Facebook. On the “Campaign Report” page, see how many people viewed your ad and what your Relevance Score is. The Relevance Score will help you evaluate if your target audience actually liked your video. If your Relevance Score is poor compared to scores for other ads shown to your audience, Facebook will limit the reach of your video. The better the video and the better the targeting, the better your Relevance Score will be.
I offer a ton of free resources, tips, guides and tutorials here on my website that can help you get started in affiliate marketing – and help you find success with it. While there are plenty of paid training programs out there, you need to be careful. Some of the people who create these programs make their money by selling the dream and not through doing true affiliate marketing for products or services outside of selling you the dream. That’s not to say there are not some good training programs out there – but buyer beware. For now, I’d recommend you start with my free information here on my website – and to sign up for my free weekly newsletter here.
If your performance tracking setup is already good to go, you can now focus on crafting compelling content for your affiliate marketing campaigns. Of course, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and so your affiliate marketing efforts probably won’t yield results right away either.
When you send someone to Amazon.com you get a percentage of anything they buy for the next 24 hours (30 days if they added an item to their cart) so if you can just get them onto the website and they happen to buy something completely unrelated you’ll get the money for it.
If you haven’t started creating a seasonal schedule for your blog posts and marketing, start now. There are dozens of holidays, such as Halloween, Easter, St. Patrick’s Day and Valentine’s Day that can produce more sales, if the advice and links are timely and interesting.
First, look at the products you already use. And remember, by promoting a product, you’re putting your own reputation on the line. Say your site, email campaign, or social media platform caters to new entrepreneurs – it’s a given that these entrepreneurs all need websites. Products related to webhosting or theme development are both great candidates and can be big earners, especially if you communicate your positive experiences. In comparison, trying to sell a weight-loss program on your business site would probably be a real turnoff for your audience, as it would be out of context.
I am mesmerized by the content and value of this ‘post’. I don’t want to call this a post because I have seen so many books, not even have half of the value of this. I will surely spend a couple of days to absorb all this information. Thank you so much for this wonderful guide, Leanne.

Sponsored Products are advertisements for products sold by merchants on Amazon.com. When you click on a Sponsored Product ad, you will be taken to an Amazon detail page where you can learn more about the product and purchase it.
Affiliate networks that already have several advertisers typically also have a large pool of publishers. These publishers could be potentially recruited, and there is also an increased chance that publishers in the network apply to the program on their own, without the need for recruitment efforts by the advertiser.
I read it non stop and got through it in just over 2 hours. It has 42 chapters on Kindle (I dont know how that translates to pages in a paperback) and also features Key Highlights, FAQs and other content that impressed me.
Let no one tell you that email marketing is dead. An email list is crucial for every affiliate marketer. You can start building up your email list with a lead magnet (like the information products mentioned previously) or even just by encouraging your audience to sign up for your updates. You can then push your content to this audience via email and also direct them to your affiliate offers. Don’t be sleazy about the sales, but if you build up enough trust with your email audience; when the time comes, they will not mind purchasing a product from you.
Your ongoing work as an affiliate marketer will be to repeat steps 4 – 6 on a continual basis. Building a site up to a point where it can make you consistent income takes a bit of work and you must be willing to constantly create, promote, market, innovate and of course, sell.
Market, market, market. Don’t rely on SEO or social media alone to drive people to your website or blog to take advantage of your affiliate recommendations. Understand who your target market is, where you can find it, and how you can entice it to your site.
Do you have any recommendations for how to find a good niche to build an Amazon affiliate site around? I’m guessing it’s better to stick with something I know (just so that it’s possible to keep putting out content), but does Amazon or anywhere else provide a tool to research good products to sell in a niche that isn’t over-saturated?
Peloton Cycle tested multiple starter images of the bike by itself, bikers in a cycling class, and instructors, and ultimately found that images of a woman using the bike in her room drove the most views (see the video above for a second example of this):
What I thought would be a refresher course for someone who has grown up using social media was so much more insightful. I now have the knowledge to implement a campaign and measure it’s success more efficiently!
Invite readers back to your blog. Roughly 4% of my readers click through to my blogs. On average, I make $1–2 per visitor. Not only are these visits an opportunity to introduce readers to value-adding services, but you can also get their e-mails, re-target with ads later, build credibility, have your content shared, etc. Here’s a walkthrough video for building your blog.
It’s popular, and for good reason. People love video, and they will continue to love video for years to come. It’s a lasting medium and it’s your way to make your mark as a cutting-edge affiliate marketer.

Cookie — in affiliate marketing, cookies are used to assign a unique ID to the buyer in order to tag the purchase as being referred by you. Cookies usually have a predetermined lifespan, so that even if the buyer doesn’t purchase right away, you will still get credit for the sale if it occurs within that timeframe (often 60 days or more).
I’ve been using Rakuten and still happy about it but now I’m trying a few other networks as well. I quite like Online Affiliate World but they specialise in gaming and poker more so I needed a bit of guidance and help. Their customer support is great so wish me luck moving forward. Any other good niche networks I should look at?
